Sunset Automotive Group, began when Robert Geyer, together with his first business partner, purchased Central Chevrolet in Springfield, Massachusetts in January of 1967. Three years later, they sold their interest in that dealership and purchased a large Chevrolet dealership in Miami, Florida.
Together they ran Tropical Chevrolet for nine years. In 1979, Mr. Geyer and his partner had an opportunity to purchase the Chevrolet dealership in Sarasota, Florida, renaming it Sunset Chevrolet. They kept their interest in the Miami store for a few years, but eventually sold out and went their separate ways. From then on, Mr. Geyer was living in Sarasota and focused on building up what is now considered the strongest independent automobile group in southwest Florida - Sunset Automotive Group.
